A tearful farewell to one of the last legacy television companies. I’m told that Dick Clark Productions, the outfit founded by the American Bandstand impresario, which produces the Golden Globes and other live event shows, is being fully absorbed into owner MRC, and will now be known as MRC Live & Alternative. Adam Stotsky, formerly of E! and Religion of Sports, will be the new president of the division.
DCP was actually a sister company of THR when I worked there, and while many employees have left amid the recent management turmoil and Covid shutdowns, I know many who remain that are depressed about the end of their association with Dick Clark himself. Stotsky is a smart guy, hopefully he can fix things. I’m told his mandate is to “blow up” the division, bring in new people, and try to reinvent live telecasts for streaming. A tough task, for sure. (MRC declined to comment.)
