It seems that Sam Bankman-Fried, the once-admired and since-disgraced crypto mogul, has run out of options to reduce the balance of his 25-year sentence in federal prison, which is slated to end in December 2044. Last month, Judge Lewis Kaplan threw the book at S.B.F., denying with prejudice his petition for a new trial in the Southern District of New York. A few weeks later, The New York Times reported that Sam had formally applied for a pardon from Donald Trump, which was always going to be a long shot. The president, of course, typically hands out pardons like water at the end of a marathon. But in January he said that he has no plans for granting Sam a reprieve. Just in case, a group of senators from both parties came together this week to urge Trump not to change his mind.
