You’ve no doubt heard about the upcoming UFC fight on the South Lawn of the White House, set for June 14—a celebration of Donald Trump’s birthday and, oh yeah, the 250th anniversary of the United States. Trump recently cited plans to “build, literally, a stadium” on the lawn that would accommodate 100,000 people. (The largest stadium in the U.S., Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, has a capacity of just over 107,000.) Alas, the event—which, according to a source, will cost UFC parent TKO as much as $60 million—will not be quite what the mixed martial arts fan-in-chief envisioned. A source familiar with the planning told me that the target seating capacity “has been moving every day” as the league deals with approvals. But according to another person, reality has hit and there’s no way the South Lawn can accommodate even a tenth of the number that Trump cited.
