Tonight, every political operative will be closely watching two momentous Senate primaries in the Lone Star State, and hunting for clues about which way the midterm winds are blowing. On the Republican side, incumbent Sen. John Cornyn is facing a challenge from Attorney General Ken Paxton, who has endured numerous scandals (and allegedly cheated on his wife) but has deep connectivity with the MAGA base. The Democratic primary, meanwhile, is pitting Rep. Jasmine Crockett, who represents the party’s punch-Republicans-in-the-face wing, against the Bible-quoting state rep and seminarian James Talarico.
