Few stories of the Covid year were stranger or sadder than Ron Meyer’s abrupt exit from NBCUniversal last August. A Hollywood fixture for five decades, a founder of CAA, and a top Universal exec for a whopping 25 years, Meyer was fired after disclosing to the company that he was being extorted by associates of an actress with whom he’d had a brief affair.

When I saw those initial headlines, I immediately had a guess who the actress must be. Meyer’s name had popped up in messages and conversations around Charlotte Kirk’s relationship with Warner Bros. C.E.O. Kevin Tsujihara back in early 2018, when I was editing the investigation by my former THR colleagues Tatiana Siegel and Kim Masters that led to Tsujihara stepping down. Meyer wasn’t in the tawdry inner circle of Kirk, Tsujihara, James Packer and Brett Ratner, but it was pretty clear she knew him.
