Unsurprisingly, I got a lot of feedback after I reported on Monday that Alexandre Arnault had attended the Trump rally at Madison Square Garden—you know, the one that featured the alleged comedian saying racist things onstage that I won’t repeat. Some people were naively shocked; more were simply disappointed. Not by Arnault’s decision to cozy up to Trump, per se—it’s in the best interest of the group, after all—but rather by his choice to kiss the ring so obsequiously and so personally.
