Rank-and-file House Democrats are so frustrated with their colleagues that they want leadership to punish the slackers—and leadership is listening, I’m told by several people familiar with the discussions. Those on the watch list include entrenched senior lawmakers who have grown too comfortable in their positions, as well as brand-name Democrats in safe seats who haven’t donated to the D.C.C.C. or campaigned alongside their colleagues. Possible punishments include internal campaigns against ranking members seeking their committee’s top slot, as well as blocking members from coveted committee assignments.
