Earlier today, Glossier’s SoHo headquarters was the site of a mass bloodletting: The cosmetics brand laid off nearly 60 of its approximately 170 corporate employees, I’m told. C.E.O. Colin Walsh announced the cross-departmental cuts in an all-hands this morning, followed by individual offboarding conversations over several hours. The last time Glossier downsized at this scale was in early 2022, when the company reduced its team by about 30 percent, or more than 80 people. Since then, however, Glossier has struggled to achieve meaningful profitability, despite revenue bouncing back in 2023 and 2024. (A spokesperson confirmed that today’s re-org took place.)
