Last week, after months of speculation, Gucci announced that chief brand officer Alessio Vannetti, who had been its comms director between 2015 and 2019, was finally out—the grim denouement of a stint that had barely lasted a year, and represented the latest shoe to drop in a rolling overhaul. In the past few months alone, Cédric Murac (S.V.P. of global brand image), Jonathan Kiman (C.M.O.), Selena Kalvaria (S.V.P. of brand engagement, Gucci Americas), Federico Turconi (C.E.O., Gucci Americas), and now Vannetti, have all exited, most with new jobs. (I’m sure I’m forgetting a few.) The move unequivocally reflects an overdue streamlining of Gucci’s business, and the consolidation of power under Stefano Cantino, the brand’s deputy C.E.O., who will be elevated to the top job in January.
